Ask the Builder: 290 Summer Street

To-be-built: a classic New England farmhouse by Sherborn Development Group

With more than 20 years of experience, David Parrish, president of Sherborn Development Group, works with his construction manager to oversee all aspects of the construction process.  Below, David shared his experience and approach with us in planning to build  290 Summer Street, Westwood.

How long have you been building homes?

Established in 2004, we are a real estate development company focused on building luxurious single-family homes in the suburbs west of Boston. Our company prides itself on delivering exceptional homes that provide our clients with quality and workmanship that will stand the test of time.

Sherborn Development Group sets itself apart

We often start working with clients at the project’s land acquisition phase to evaluate the attributes of a particular parcel. Then, we help the client conceptualize the new residence, organize a team that includes architects and designers, and set up an efficient plan for the build. To help ensure timely starts to our projects, our team handles the entire permitting process and all the related engineering. We deliver our projects on time and on budget, but we also pride ourselves on delivering quality homes that exceed our client’s expectations.

Sherborn Development Group’s building style

We tend to focus on Farmhouse and Shingle style homes, often with a Nantucket flair.

A carefully conceived floor plan

For us, there must be excellent flow for entertaining and everyday life. We love the open concept where the kitchen area is open to the main living space on the first floor. Over the years, we have built several variations of this home and have always gotten great feedback from our clients.

Customizable to your personal style

The buyer can select colors, decorative surfaces, and fixtures.  Allowances will be provided for many of the items.

Energy efficiency

On all our projects, we do open-cell foam insulation on the cap and all the exterior walls. We use a closed-cell product on all lower-level related insulation where there are concrete walls. Also, all the critical interior walls are insulated for sound to provide an added level of privacy.

A thoughtful approach to landscape design

We work with a landscape architect to develop a design for the project that incorporates the hardscape features and is consistent with the farmhouse feel. We then use the design as a guide for the project, with the buyer and landscape architect working closely together.
