This year has shown us all how important it is to be able to get outside or have room to burn off some energy at home. These properties offer the amenities that’ll keep you on your skis, on horseback, and in shape or the space to create a recreational property all your own.
For the Skier
Being able to enjoy these New England settings year-round is easy when you have access to some of region’s best skiing. The former home of Paleface Mountain Ski Area in the Adirondacks could now be your personal retreat. Bassett Mountain offers alpine and cross-country ski trails as well as views of Whiteface Mountain. Ridgeview, a modern Vermont retreat, looks out over Sugarbush Resort and is just minutes from Sugarbush and Mad River Glen. The Treehouse in the Berkshires is close to the slopes at Bousquet Mountain and Jiminy Peak, among others. Past the rolling meadows of Cobble Hill Farm, you can see the slopes of Glebe Mountain. Plus, this trails on this 149-acre property connect with the 32km network of trails run by the Viking Nordic Center. In New Hampshire, Hope Farm is close to some of the state’s most popular skiing at Mt. Sunapee and Ragged Mountain.
For the Golfer
Copper Beech Hill, a turn-of-the-century estate, is located next to the Myopia Hunt & Polo Club and overlooks the 15th green. Just down the street from Moon Tide Cottage are Goose River Golf Course and Megunticook Golf Club, as well as many more dotting the Maine coast. When you can’t get to your favorite course, you can still practice your short game with the indoor putting space at Overloch on Lords Hill. At 18 High Ridge Drive, you’ll find country club living at its finest. This home in the Bay Club at Mattapoisett neighbors a beautiful golf course that includes a professional staff offering clinics, lessons, and youth programs.
To Workout In
For the days when the weather isn’t cooperating, work out in your own home gym instead. At Westwoods, not only is there an exercise room, but there’s even a yoga studio. Make sure you have all the equipment and space you need, like 73 & 75 Harbor Street does. Enjoy the great outdoors and a beautiful view while still having a roof over your head – the gym at North Haven Road sits at the water’s edge. You can really treat yourself with a set up like 161 Pleasant Street, which has a separate spa area with an indoor lap pool, hot tub, exercise room, and sauna.
For the Equestrian
Pamper yourself and your four-legged friend with a property featuring equestrian amenities. Sunswick is an equestrian paradise with 8 rolling pasture, a fenced riding ring, 8-stall center aisle barn, and bridge paths. 38 Gardner Street is another North Shore property that offers open, level acreage and direct access to the Essex County Trail Association. New Hampshire’s Fleetwood Farm boasts a recently-renovated 1797 barn with 11 stalls, tack room, grain room, and hay storage. With over 500 acres to roam plus several practical and attractive outbuildings including a heated post-and-beam barn with stables, Sleepy Hollow Farm is perfect recreational retreat. White Fox Farm serves an important role in the Green Mountain Horse Association community – it’s the 83-mile marker for the hundred-mile ride. In Central MA, 50 Birch Hill Road, set on 41 acres, offers pastures, 15 acres of open fields, and an attached post-and-beam barn with 4 stalls.
For Rural and Recreational Development Potential
Sometimes no perfect property exists…yet. With these properties, you have the option to create the perfect retreat. Kingdom Highlands is perched high in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom and has a conservation easement that encourages recreational uses. Portions of uneased land would be ideal sites for a rural cabin or formal country estate. In Central New York’s Mohawk Valley, Hoyer Hill is a blank canvas where you can create your own sanctuary on 300 acres. Get away from it all without being too far from modern conveniences and services at Crooked River Timberlands. A small hilltop at the north end of the property is just waiting for your new home to be built. Close to three ski resorts, Oak Hill overlooks the southern Green Mountains in Jamaica’s Rawsonville section.
