19 Mile Stretch
Where Old Meets New at the Pool

19 Mile Stretch has the history and charm one might expect from an old home with clean lines and a modern feel from its most recent transformation.

What’s the Old?
Originally built in 1905, it’s been told that the cottage once sat on the beach side and at some point, was moved to the Pool side. During the recent renovation, the below photo was discovered in the wall. Looking at the calendar, it appears this might be either from 1958 or 1964. Can anyone tell us anything about these folks?

OLD-New

What’s the New?
Perfectly sited on Mile Stretch Road to take advantage of the Pool and deeded access to the gorgeous, uncrowded mile-plus long beach, the newly built cottage was designed by Travis Kinney of Gulf Shore Design of Scarborough, Maine. With minimum maintenance for maximum enjoyment and nothing contrived, this sophisticated 4-bedroom, 4 bath beach-style home was created with the highest of quality materials. The home includes new septic and water line from house to town main line, new plumbing, insulation and electrical. Plenty of windows for summer breezes and Mitsubishi wall-mounted units for heat and air conditioning.

What’s The Pool?
At the mouth of the Saco River where it meets Saco Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, a large tidal pool and its surrounding area is known as Biddeford Pool. Mile Stretch Road is a sandy strip that connects Fletcher Neck and Biddeford Pool to the mainland with beautiful beachfront on one side, and the serene Pool on the other. The Pool, with tall grasses, salt marshes and wildlife, is a leading birding spot along the northeast coast. Saco Bay provides protected waters, inlets and various islands for searching, sailing and kayaking.

And that peaceful sugary sand beach…. you’ll never want to leave!
