Named the most beautiful lake in the U.S, Lake George in New York’s Adirondack Mountains has been an inspiration for centuries. One of Georgia O’Keeffe’s most famous paintings, Lake George Reflection, will be offered for sale at Christie’s in New York on May 19, 2016 and is estimated to sell for $8,000,000-$12,000,000. The painting is reminiscent of O’Keefe’s time spent at Alfred Stieglitz’s family’s retreat on Lake George, which she often referred to as “perfect”. According to Christie’s, O’Keefe “intended it to be hung in both portrait and landscape form, so that it embodied both her abstract and representational painting.”
