Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in one of LandVest’s properties?
We invite our owners to tell us a bit about their experience, what they love about their homes and what makes their property special. The owner of 17 Mountain Ave in Woodstock, Vermont shares her story and what she loves about this historic Woodstock, Vermont village home.
What brought you to 17 Mountain Ave?
For years I would drive to the village from my home on Hartland Hill to go for walks, and I decided that the only street I would ever live on in the village would be Mountain Ave. It is a beautiful respite from the rest of the village; quiet and peaceful, yet within walking distance of all that the village has to offer, including shops, restaurants, theater, Faulkner Park, the post office and church.
In 2007, I was going to lunch with a very good friend who told me she was moving to Washington DC to be closer to her grandchildren. Since I had always loved her home and wanted to move to the Village of Woodstock, I decided to buy it from her.
What were some of the reasons you were attracted to this house?
I was attracted to this house in particular because of its design and historic 1825 architecture, gardens, large yard and the fact that it is all wooded behind me. I also admired the interior that is well-suited for casual living as well as more formal entertaining, be it inside or outside.
Do you have a favorite room in the house?
In summer and early fall, my favorite space is the screen porch that looks out over the back yard and gardens. It is wonderfully private. The rest of the year it is both the living room and dining room. Be it during the holidays with family and friends or hosting my local reading club, the combination of a wood-burning fireplace, natural light and comfortable atmosphere is delightful.
I also love to spend time in the front yard with my gardens or in the “back islands” that are loaded with perennials.
What specific improvements have been made to the property?
The house has a new boiler, hot water heater and oil tank, washer & dryer as well as a new roof. I also installed a new master bathroom on the second floor and ¾ bathroom on the first floor and re-decorated throughout with the help of Beverly Ritchie Humpstone of Flynn & Ritchie Interiors, who came to Woodstock from Georgetown. I also rebuilt the screen porch.
Why are you selling?
I am selling because I have recently downsized due to advancing years. I have truly loved every minute of living at 17 Mountain Ave and am sure the next owners will too!
