On an Island? Check. Near to city amenities? Check. Great story? Check. (Arctic explorers, even).
Crab Island, a one-acre kingdom to itself just off South Freeport, Maine, has been cleaning up in the press, from the Portland Press Herald to tweets by the Boston Globe.
What makes it so cool? Karen Reiche, listing broker who leads LandVest’s Southern Maine team, says it’s simple:
- It’s an island.
- It’s ten minutes from civilization (great shopping in Freeport and everything else in nearby Portland).
- It’s got a great history, having been owned by Admiral Peary, the famous Arctic explorer, and by his daughter, who was born in the Arctic and herself became a noted explorer.
You don’t have to be a bold explorer to appreciate this dreamy little spot, with trails ringing the island, two private beaches and a simple camp to relax in.
Sorry, it’s under agreement. Stay tuned!
