Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in one of LandVest’s properties? We invite our owners to tell us a bit about their experience, what they love about their homes and a bit of their history. The owners of Hammond Hill Farm in Parsonsfield, Maine share some of the special qualities about their property.
How did you come about owning this property, and when?
We purchased it in 1999 after receiving a private referral from a friend. The property never came on the public market.
Why did you choose this location?
We loved the natural beauty, privacy, wonderful buildings, stone walls, etc. There was a unique quality of its views and physical privacy due to the placement of the house and entrance road. The house is, and always has been, a joy to live in.
Please describe any recent, significant improvements.
We did a complete rebuilding of the wing to the left of the entrance, as well as the kitchen. No limits were put on the kitchen design, and we have never been sorry.
Tell us about some of the property’s special features.
The siting of the home is superb; high, dry, and with spectacular views. The post-and-beam barn is a treasure and has provided unique entertaining opportunities, including large events, and several weddings. The sauna is also greatly appreciated, especially during winter.
What is your favorite room in the house and why?
The kitchen has always been perfect for us, in every respect. Steve Weatherhead from Winton Scott Architects designed the kitchen.
Do you have a favorite spot on the property?
You will usually find us on the front porch, at sundown, on a warm day. In a cooler season, we like sitting inside by one of the 3 fireplaces.
Please provide us with any history that may be of interest to a prospective buyer.
The house was constructed in 1850, the post-and-beam barn was built about 1980. All improvements and remodels have been executed with the overall goal of maintaining its original character. The property has been an active farm for most of its existence, and became a residence when purchased by the former owner.
