“Why We Love Coming Back to Wing’s Bay”
Wing’s Bay is the realization of one family’s longtime dream. They started with a beautiful place on the expansive, sparkling Lake Champlain, with the Adirondacks on the horizon. It’s effortlessly quiet. On most days, the only sounds are the rustle of the wind in the trees and the waves, lapping gently on the shore.
But Wing’s Bay is more than just a tranquil escape. This dynamic location offers a host of summer watersports on the lake. Whether you crave the adrenaline rush of jet skis or the breezy freedom of big lake sailing, Wing’s Bay has access to it all. Nearby, the Green Mountains beckon. There you can find plenty of hiking and skiing opportunities, from the gentle slopes of the Middlebury Snow Bowl to the challenging black diamond runs at Stowe Mountain – just 40 minutes away! Last, but not least, there’s the nearby city of Burlington, known for its locavore food scene, live music, and diverse shopping and nightlife offerings. Plenty to explore for everyone.
Wing’s Bay was designed to be the perfect house for a big family. There is room enough for everyone, and the way that the guest spaces lay out, visitors have the privacy to come and go as they please. When everyone comes together as a group, there are ample spaces to entertain.
Taken altogether, the result is pure magic—something that the daughter of the current owner will be the first one to tell you.
Anne grew up at Wing’s Bay with her younger brother and parents. Now grown and living on the West Coast, Anne took a moment to share what makes this property so special and what keeps her coming back again and again—often with friends in tow.
What was it like growing up at Wing’s Bay?
“My parents always dreamed of a place where we could all be together. Wing’s Bay has been the realization of that dream for three generations of our family,” she says. “It was the perfect place to grow up and explore. Now, I can’t help but go back to visit – and bring friends – every chance I get!”
What is your favorite spot in the house?
In the summer it’s the screened-in porch. I love to read a book there during a gorgeous sunset or curl up with a blanket and nap during an afternoon rain. In the winter, it would have to be the nook off the kitchen. My brother and I learned how to build fires in that fireplace, and still it’s one of my favorite things to do while someone is cooking in the kitchen.
What are some of your fondest memories at Wing’s Bay?
Exploring the lake and surrounding woods! In all the seasons it’s great to get out and explore the land. Holidays are also lovely at the house – there are tons of places to get cozy and hang out with family. Lastly (but of course not least!), our wedding! My husband and I had the most magical week leading up to our wedding. We had 20 people staying at the house and having adventures all week, and then of course the celebration itself was fantastic. We all had so much fun that we threw a 5-year anniversary party! Our friends started affectionately calling it summer camp.
What does a typical day look like at Wing’s Bay?
These days, my husband and I often come back to Vermont for several weeks in the summer and my friends love to join us. Our days usually start with coffee on the porch looking out over the lake. We can tell a lot about what our plans will be based on reading the waves and the sky out over Champlain. After breakfast, we may hop into the kayaks to paddle around the point.
Midday we will likely grill and hang in the sun by the pool out back. We may even mix in a friendly game of bocce or cornhole on the lawn! Later, we’ll probably head into Burlington for a brewery tour and to walk around on Church Street. We might also eat dinner in town at one of a handful of really fun spots. When we head home later that evening, we usually end up back down at the beach – skipping stones and hanging out by the bonfire. In the winter, my friends and I are equally eager to come up to Charlotte – we just swap out lake adventures for mountain ones!
