April 19th, 1775, The Shot Heard Round the World. Every year Massachusetts communities celebrate this milestone of American history. Patriots’ Day falls on April 21st this year and the celebrations will draw crowds of people to Lexington, Concord and Minute Man National Historical Park. On Patriots’ Day 2014 in particular we celebrate resilience, and remember those who have sacrificed for our freedom.
Communities surrounding Boston host commemorative events such as the Lexington Battle Reenactment and the Patriots’ Day Parade in Lexington, both will take place on April 21st. However, there is no shortage of events to attend and take part in throughout the weekend. A few are highlighted below:
- The Shot Heard Round the World: April 19, 1775, a special exhibition at the Concord Museum. April 18th through September 21st, 2014.
- Warlike Preparations at the Barrett Farm, experience the preparations that Colonel James Barrett undertook in order to safeguard the town’s military supplies. April 20th, 2014.
- The Liberty Ride, Trolley Tour of Lexington and Concord. Weekends April and May, 2014.
