On Cape Cod, summer means sailing and for kids sailing means Optis (Optimist dinghies). Optis are one of the biggest and fastest growing dinghy classes in the world. Designed to be safe, inexpensive, and competitive, more than 150,000 kids compete in Opti racing programs in more than 100 countries. More than 50% of the dinghy skippers at the last Olympics were former Opti sailors.
On Cape Cod, the Hyannis Port and Hyannis Yacht Clubs have strong Opti programs. On August 8 the Hyannis Yacht Club will host the 2013 Youth Invitational Regatta.
